History
Midstates Development, Inc. has been involved in property management for over 50 years. Our journey began in January 1972, when Holtze Construction expanded into property management to help address the growing need for affordable senior housing. Throughout the 1980s, we built apartment communities specifically to meet the needs of older adults.
Most of our properties are subsidized by HUD, allowing residents to pay just 30% of their gross adjusted annual income toward rent. Over the years, we have grown steadily and today proudly own or manage more than 1,000 apartments across Iowa and Nebraska. Our communities are primarily located in small, beautiful towns throughout Iowa — ideal places to relax and retire — with three locations in Nebraska.
In addition to our senior-focused communities, we also manage two conventional apartment properties in Sioux City, Iowa: Prestwick Apartments in Morningside and Candlewick Apartments on the north side. These conventional properties offer spacious, amenity-rich apartments for residents seeking modern, comfortable living options.

Regional Managers work hand-in-hand with Community Managers to guide residents through every step of the leasing process, while on-site managers and maintenance teams are always available to meet the day-to-day needs of our communities. Whether assisting new residents or supporting long-term tenants, our team is dedicated to creating safe, supportive environments where individuals can feel at home.
